Meet Poonam Pal
Physiotherapist
Poonam is a highly accomplished physiotherapist with a robust educational background and extensive professional experience. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore, India, in 2002. Following this, she pursued a Master’s degree at the University of Otago, New Zealand, earning her degree in 2004. Her academic journey continued as she received a scholarship from the Vernon Willey Trust Fellowship and the Health Research Council of New Zealand, enabling her to complete a PhD titled “Cumulative Loads on the Lumbar Spine During Wool Harvesting” in 2010.
Professionally, Poonam has worked in various public organizations in Singapore, with her last public posting at Changi General Hospital, where she dedicated nearly a decade to patient care. In 2017, she was awarded a Ministry of Health scholarship to pursue a clinical master’s program, graduating with a Master of Health Practice in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from Auckland University of Technology with distinction.
Our Services
Poonam specializes in managing spinal conditions through both operative and conservative care, focusing on acute conditions in the A&E department and continuing care at outpatient clinics. She has developed a keen interest in chronic pain management, which led her to become a certified yoga teacher in March 2021. Poonam also has experience in sports coverage for para-athletes, having covered the Dubai Para Athletics Championship in 2019.
Her commitment to continuous professional development is evident through her completion of the McKenzie Lumbar Spine Part A course in August 2021, and her incorporation of DMA clinical pilates principles into rehabilitation practices.
Since transitioning to the private sector in January 2022, Poonam has remained passionate about clinical services, integrating principles from clinical yoga, bio-psychosocial approaches, and specialized rehabilitation techniques into her practice. She keeps up to date by attending courses and attending conferences in the region and overseas. She has also recently received accolades like the Outstanding Physiotherapist Award – Private Sector 2024 from the Singapore Physiotherapy Association. She is currently servingas a scientific co-chair for the upcoming 10th Association of Southeast Asian Pain Societies Congress to be held in May 2025. She has been serving as an adjunct faculty member at the Singapore Institute of Technology, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses since September 2023.
